Answers to common privacy questions about Cortex Workspace Desktop: where your files live, what (if anything) leaves your machine for AI processing, how long related cloud-side data is kept, and whether your content is used to train models.
Yes. In Cortex Workspace, a Project is a local folder on your computer.
- Cortex reads that folder directly on your device
- Edits and file changes save on your machine
- Cortex does not package your whole project folder and upload it to the cloud as a backup or sync store
Your local folder remains the source of truth for your documents.
Only the information needed for the current AI request is sent for processing — not your entire file library or project folder.
Typical examples of what may be included in an AI request:
- The prompt you typed
- Relevant excerpts or content the agent needs to complete that task
What stays on your device:
- The project folder itself
- Files you are not asking the AI to process
- Edits saved back to local files after the task
If you are not using AI on a file, that file is not packed up and sent off as a bulk upload.
Cortex commits to deleting cloud-side data related to AI processing within 30 days.
This retention commitment applies to processing-related data that may leave your device for an AI request. It does not mean Cortex deletes or moves the local files in your project folder — those stay on your computer under your control.

No. Cortex routes model calls through a neutral inference layer.
- Your content is used to answer or complete the request you made
- It is not used to train Cortex models
- It is not handed off for providers to train on your proprietary data under Cortex’s supported routing model
Cortex is also SOC 2 Type II certified. Security and compliance claims on the marketing site should stay aligned with this guide.
